Contemporary artists often resort to abstractionism without knowing the intricacies of this direction of art. The Indian painter Subhashis Ghosh is an exception. Since his first exhibitions in 2012-13, his individual style has been one of interest in the world, which is unusual for an artist in the contemporary era. Recently, his work has been acquired as part of the largest art collection of the Bob Guccione Foundation.

Artist's Statement
The Indian painter Subhashis Ghosh has started his journey in professional art field from 2010. Painting, being the most comfortable form of communication, helps Subhashis to shape his ideas, emotions, questions in visual format. Nature is the most wanting subject for him. His inspiration comes from the presence of the magical side that exist in nature and sensuality of natural elements. Following mind search, he finds inner pace in each of the earth element and he give it a destination.
Since the first exhibitions in 2012-13, his individual style is of interest in the world. His expressionist works represent the freedom and mystical journey between nature and universe. And that pursue his artistic journey in different mediums such as oil, watercolour, ink, pen, oil pastel etc. His palette comprises mostly earthy colours like green, brown, yellow , blue etc. He says “My artistic style comprises of Chinese brushstrokes, Indian wash technique with the Western-Indian color schemes and the energetic force. I never tried to invent it, as it was originated by itself when the subject demanded the true way of projection. I think, this fundamental part makes the difference with the rest. My works are more getting into the genre, which is dependent on strong and subtle brush strokes, with vibrant colors spreading in existential energy The energy source is important as it rises from the work itself. My brush strokes are splashes out the colors in abstract form and through abstraction I try to reach the mystery of
the composition.” And thus place Subhashis as an expressionist artist.
He adds on his small works - “Till now most of my works are miniature, where every detail has been painted willingly, thoughtfully. It is not ‘ just happened’, done with intervention. Every nook and corner are done with minute observation to communicate the feelings. “
In his artistic journey, though Subhashis is not keen to participate in regular exhibitions, still he completed twenty four exhibitions in India including three solo shows. His works selected and exhibited in state and national level art shows, like AIFACS and Rajya Charukala Parshad Annual Exhibition.
He also took part in one group show and art festival in USA.
Many collectors from abroad and in India have collected his works, while the most prestigious Guccione Collection accumulated one of his work.

"Subhashis Ghosh has a kind of energy that can colour an environment, possibly a small town and potentially the whole world. It has an optimism and ferocity that is contagious and exciting, and his work is a product of that.
It's definitely provocative, mystical and totally motivated by a spiritual desire to create . In his hometown, he is living proof of life as art, art as life and his commitment to a plan beyond. Kolkata is city unique in India. At three years of age, he was already a whiz kid, drawing pictures taken from magazines that had inspired by the great illustrators of his country. This resulted in an ability to create colour images in his infancy. I once asked him what was the creative process as he understood it, and he told me he was motivated by nature and the universe along with the process of human civilization, and what most fascinates him is the mysterious aspect of life.
"My inspiration comes from the presence of the magical side that exists in nature and sensuality of natural elements. Can I play the hidden feelings of nature? This striking contrast haunts me. I try to pass this on paper and canvas," he said.
Subhashis Ghosh is a celebrated artist in his country and recently his work has been acquired for the art collection of Bob Guccione Foundation (read Penthouse Magazine)"
“I know that it is actually awful to compare the work of an artist with that of another, but your work reminded me of the late phase of Chang dai chien – who happens to be my favourite “contemporary” artist – whatever that may mean.
He combined classical Chinese art with more abstract forms.
As a research – based interior designer I am fascinated with both combining historic principles of interior design and contemporary aesthetics towards a timelessness and combining the aesthetic traditions of different cultures.”
